A 10-day-old baby with "lightning-like" myoclonic limb jerks during sleep: a case report

Background: Benign neonatal sleep myoclonus (BNSM) is a condition commonly mistaken for seizures. It characterized by self-limiting "lightning-like" myoclonic limb jerks that occur primarily during in the newborn phase but are not associated with epilepsy suddenly stops when infant agitated. This potentially resolved between ages of 2 and 6 months. The incidence BNSM per 1,000 births 0.8 to 3 cases. case report aims explain findings neonate multiple episodes abnormal affecting entire limb, only sleep.Case Report: We reported 40-day-old baby boy since 10-day-old sleep. jerky body movements appeared six until nine times day approximately an hour interval movements. patient did have any neurologic deficits, pathologic reflexes vital signs abnormalities. Electroencephalogram (EEG) revealed normal result. diagnosed BNSM.Conclusion: disorder. For seizures or even status epilepticus, can be misinterpreted, recognizing childhood benign important prevent unnecessary diagnostic studies treatments. prognosis was good didn't need medication long-term follow-up.
